Matthew 13:1-2 Jesus speaks a parable (a figure of speach, an analogy) to the multitudes of people gathered, the parable is that of *The Sower*.
Matthew 13:3-10 Jesus tells of how the sower goes out to sow seeds and what happens to many of those seeds, such as: some fell beside the road and birds ate them up; others fell upon rocky places where they didn't have much soil, although they sprang up, but due to the lack of soil they were scorched by the hot sun and because they had no root they withered away; others fell among thorns and the thorns choked them out. Others fell on good soil and yielded a crop of 30, 60 and a hundredfold. Then He says, "Who hath ears to hear, let him hear." His desciples came and asked Him why He spoke to the people in parables? {The answer is astonishing and line up with Revelation 14:14-20, see my Revelation page for more on that, His explanation of the parable is next and absolutely fascinating!).
Matthew 13:11-17 Jesus goes on to tell the disciples that, "it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given." He goes on to explain this and backs it up with quotes from Old Testament scriptures. {Not only was it given to the apostles, it is also given to us!}.
Matthew 13:18-19 "Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower." He continues, "When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth [it] not, then cometh the wicked [one], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side." {The seed is the spoken or written Word of God, the word of His kingdom. Some that hear the words of God but don't understand it even though it's tucked away in their hearts are caught or snatched away by satan meaning they are tempted or drawn into his world and away from God's by their own choice of not following up on the seed sown in their hearts and acting on that planting. These are the ones that fall by the wayside, backsliders that by choice move away from the Lord because for whatever reason they don't pursue understanding Him. God is the Sower, He released the seed but it's up to each individual to cultivate that which they've received as we see in the parable of the Talents below.}.
Matthew 13:20-21 "But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended." {Notice exactly how this is worded, not that the seed was sown upon stony places as though they were carelessly cast on stones, no instead He says "But he that received the seed INTO stony palces" and refers to those that are weak in times of trouble. Yes they receive the word, and with joy, but they think life under God should entail some sort of state of bliss and when that doesn't occur and trials in life happen upon them they get offended for their lack of understanding and fall away. Again, lack of understanding that we Christians will have trials and tribulations just as the apostles did, possibly even unto our own deaths, is a self-induced state and comes from lack of concern for making sure you understand the whole word of God, our Holy Bible!}.
Matthew 13:22-22 "He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful." {Here we see the seed received among the thorns, where the recipient *hears the word* but due to the cares of this world and the riches they may have attained in life the word within them is choked out and they become unfruitful. We cannot just receive the word of God and then be couch potatoes without bother of striving for a relationship with our Creator and Lord.}.
Matthew 13:23-23 "But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth [it]; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." {I don't know about you but I personally lay claim to this one for myself! We that hear the word are those that received the seed INTO good ground (ourselves), we study the word and through the Holy Spirit we gain insight and understanding and then we in turn bring forth fruit (sow the seed to others). Some of us get the word out to 30, some to 60, some 100 and more otherwise lost souls. The Lord isn't finished with this subject, see what happens to the resulting wheat & tares in Matthew 13:24-30 and more in Matthew 37-43!}.
Matthew 13:24-26 The Lord presents another parable, that of the *Wheat & the Tares*. He goes on to describe the kingdom of heaven as comparable to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While men were sleeping the enemy comes in and sows tares (resembles wheat but is a weed, it's very indistinguishable from wheat except when it's fully grown it is barron where wheat produces grain (seed) that gets harvested. When the wheat sprang up and bore grain the tares became evident also. {Don't miss this folks, this is critical!}.
Matthew 13:27-28 The slaves of the landowner approach him and inquire if he didn't sow good seed in his field and how is it then that there's tares also. The landowner says that "An enemy hath done this." The slaves ask if the master would like them to go and gather up the tares, here's what the master replies:
Matthew 13:29-30 "But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn." {In case you haven't figured it out yet, the wheat is Believers/Christians; while the tares are non-believers/idolators. And so it is even today where we continue on together until God the Father tells our Lord Jesus it's time for Him to return to earth ... when He does return He will come with a host of angels (reapers) as we see in Matthew 25 below, but before we get to that let's continue on here.}.
Matthew 13:31-35 The Lord Jesus tells another parable, that of a *mustard seed*, in which He compares the kingdom of heaven to a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, and how it grows from the smallest seed into a large herb tree for which it's branches provide lodging for the birds. He then tells another parable of leavened (bread) where he likens the kingdom of heaven to leaven (yeast) for which a woman hides three measures of meal (flour) until the whole (dough was) leavened (risen). These verses end with, "All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world." {Oooooh secrets! I love secrets ... that's one of the reason's I'm doing this site, to search out these marvelous secrets! The Lord has granted us the ability to understand if we earnestly seek.}.
Matthew 13:36-39 "Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked [one]; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels." {WOW, you can't get any plainer than that can you!? "Son of man" is Jesus. The next section is important, it's one of the keys to understanding end-time events!}.
Matthew 13:40-42 "As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." {Do you see it? The tares (sinners/non-believers) are gathered by the reaper angels and cast into the lake of fire! If you will notice the next verses you will see that the wheat (believers/Christians) are all that remains ON THE EARTH ~ where oh where is there a *rapture* of the saints!? There isn't one, we will inhabit this earth, it's what God created it for ... we will be here with our Lord & Savior ... ON EARTH ... living as God had intended way back from the time of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden! This may be the actual 'end of the world' where it is consumed in fire, thereafter God makes all things new for our inheritance and joy and both God the Father and Jesus our Lord will live with us forevermore!}.
Matthew 13:43-43 "Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear." {There you have it ... we, the righteous that are alive at that time, the time of the Lord's return, will shine forth (we'll be the only ones left standing so to speak) in the kingdom of our Father ... sorry folks, but believers in Jesus will not be going to heaven, heaven will be coming to us! He who has an ear, let them hear!!!}.
Matthew 13:44-48 The Lord compares the kingdom of heaven in three more parables: *treasure hidden in a field*; *the pearl of great price*; and *a net*. Notice what is said for each: "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field." and "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it." and again "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away." {The first two parables can go two ways in my view and I'm having a hard time deciding which it is. It could be that in each instance the subject of the parable is Jesus, or it may be the subject is the believers ... either way it's a win win situation. As for the third parable it's interesting to note the "gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore" ... this is very clearly the separation of sheep and goats, or wheat and tares, at the end of the world ... confirmed again below!}.
Matthew 13:49-50 "So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." {Sever (reap/gather) the wicked (tares) from the just (wheat) ... the wicked non-believers will be harvested from the earth and cast into the lake of fire, here called furnace of fire, while the just believers... those that are alive and remain at that time, will shine forth triumpant in Jesus Christ IN the kindgom of God ON THE EARTH. God made this earth for us, it IS our inheritance!}.
Matthew 13:51-53 "Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe [which is] instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man [that is] an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure [things] new and old. And it came to pass, [that] when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence." {The chapter still has verses 54-58 ... be sure to read them also.}.
{I will likely expand more on the verses of Matthew 24 & 25 as time permits, but below you at least have a quick reference of what they're about.}
Matthew 24:1-2 Destruction of Temple {third temple yet to be built in Jerusalem?}.
Matthew 24:3-28 Sign of Jesus' Coming; End of the World {Great Tribulation}.
Matthew 24:29-30 Immediately AFTER the Tribulation, the Son of Man (Jesus) returns.
Matthew 24:31 Jesus sends His angels, with a great sound of a trumpet, to gather His Elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other (worldwide) ~ see my articles at Deb's Diary titled Day of the Lord & Will He find Faith on the Earth?. {I believe this 'sound of a trumpet' may be the seventh trumpet spoken of in great detail in Revelation 11:15 and will occur at the END of the tribulation when Jesus comes back to earth to rule from New Jerusalem.}.
Matthew 24:32-33 Parable of the fig tree {coming of the Lord, be watchful}.
Matthew 24:34-51 This generation shall not pass away till all these things be fulfilled; that day/hour knows no one except the Father; the coming of the Son of Man (Jesus) will be like in the days of Noah; one taken other left; the Lord will come at a day & hour most will think not ... be on the watch, be ready!
Matthew 25:1-13 Parable of the 10 Virgins {five ready, five not}, watch, be ready!
Matthew 25:14-30 Parable of the talents {five given to one servant who double them, two give to another servant who also doubled them, one given to a third servant who did nothing with it. I watched a sermon just the other day where the pastor taught that the 'talents' are those people entrusted to you during your life, even those that you may have only a brief encounter with ... we should all be sowing the seeds of the Good News of our Lord & Savior Jesus, and the glorious kingdom of God. People we come in contact with throughout our lives ARE our talents!}. ~ see my article at Deb's Diary titled Prosperity ~ Seed Sowing.
Matthew 25:31-46 Son of Man (Jesus) coming in all His glory with the holy angels, Jesus sits on His throne to judge the earth separating the nations' peoples as sheep to His right (heaven) and goats to His left {hell}, Jesus judges the nations. {This ties in with Matthew 13 above, and with Zechariah 14 & Revelation 14 ... interesting how they're all about chapter 13-14 huh!?}.
