Zechariah
12:1-1 The "second burden" that this chapter
starts out with is the LORD declaring who He is and establishing
who He is talking to/about in this chapter. "The burden
of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth
forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and
formeth the spirit of man within him."
{The whole chapter refers to "in that day", which
I think means 'the day of the Lord', Christ's return to earth,
and thereafter. Also affirmed is that the LORD is our creator!
If the LORD coming to earth (as we read below) refers to Jesus,
then this verse means Jesus is our Creator, through God the Father,
as John 1:1 reads: "In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
and John 1:14, which reads: "And
the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full
of grace and truth." Jesus IS the Word AND the LORD
of the Old Testament!!! Now that you know WHO the LORD of the
OT is, you should read it anew with Jesus Christ the Messiah in
mind!}. |
Zechariah
12:2-6 Zechariah records that the LORD will "make
Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about,
when they shall be in the siege both against Judah [and]
against Jerusalem." He continues on in several
verses with reference to "in that day", such as: "And
in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people:
all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though
all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with
astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine
eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the
people with blindness." {There
will be a siege against Judah (region of southern Israel) and
Jerusalem (city of). This sounds very much like the end of the
Tribulation mentioned in Revelation where all the nations come
against Jerusalem and Jesus comes back to save a remnant therein.}. |
Zechariah
12:7-9 "The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah
first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the
inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify [themselves] against Judah.
In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David;
and the house of David [shall be] as God, as the angel of the
LORD before them. And it shall come to pass in that day,
[that] I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against
Jerusalem." {Judah is
clearly first here, Jesus is a descendant of Judah. And then Zechariah
goes on to document that the LORD will seek to destroy ALL the
nations that come against Jerusalem ... see Revelation!}. |
Zechariah
12:10-10 "And I will pour upon the house of David,
and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and
of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they
have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth
for [his] only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one
that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn."
{The LORD pours out His Spirit of grace upon the inhabitants of
Jerusalem, I take this to mean that now these people now realize
that Jesus IS the Messiah and repent and receive the Holy Spirit
and there spiritual eyes & ears are opened. These people will
be deeply sorry for the actions of their ancestors toward the
Messiah and deeply mourn their rejection of Him.}. |
Zechariah
12:11-11 "In that day shall there be a great
mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley
of Megiddon." {Great loss of life
will occur in Jerusalem as noted in Zechariah 13:8-9, and also
noted in Revelation!}. |
|
Zechariah
13:1-5 Zechariah goes on to prophesy how the LORD will
come to the House of David, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
and how He will cut off idolatry. {The
House of David IS Judah, the southern part of Israel.}. |
Zechariah
13:6-7 "And [one] shall say unto him, What [are]
these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, [Those] with
which I was wounded [in] the house of my friends. Awake, O
sword, against my shepherd, and against the man [that is] my fellow,
saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep
shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the
little ones." {This is referring
to Christ's persecution and death and the question is obviously
a future one since the Jews currently still do not recognize Jesus
as their Messiah. "smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall
be scattered" was quoted by Jesus in Mark 14:27
and it was fulfilled in Mark 14:50; here the
prophesy is confirmation of the Messiah yet to come at the time
this was written.}. |
Zechariah
13:8-9 "And it shall come to pass, [that] in
all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off
[and] die; but the third shall be left therein. And I
will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them
as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they
shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It [is]
my people: and they shall say, The LORD [is] my God."
{This seems to refer to the end of Tribulation as spoken of in
Revelation. It seems that the people only call upon the name of
the LORD when they are clearly loosing this great battle of Armageddon
and only 1/3 of them is left alive!}. |
|
Zechariah
14:1-3 "Behold, the day of the LORD cometh,
and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I
will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city
shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished;
and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue
of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then shall the
LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought
in the day of battle." {Confirmation!
The day of the LORD is the same as "in that day". It
also confirms what is said in Revelation! Now watch as our mighty
and triumphant Lord Jesus returns to do battle for the remnant
of His people, Israel! The battle is short-lived, read on! Pay
attention here folks ... the LORD that we have thought so long
in the Bible to be God Himself is actually Jesus! Y@hovah (Strong's
03068) this is the same LORD GOD that we see beginning in Genesis
2:4 onward ... here's proof that Jesus is all over the Old Testament!
God Himself spoke it and Jesus the Son of God (LORD GOD) performed
what His Father spoke, John
1:1 confirms this also.}. |
Zechariah
14:4-5 "And his feet shall stand in that
day upon the mount of Olives, which [is] before Jerusalem on the
east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in
the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, [and there
shall be] a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall
remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And
ye shall flee [to] the valley of the mountains; for the valley
of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like
as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king
of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, [and] all the saints
with thee." {"his
feet" refers to Jesus upon His return to earth, make no mistake
about WHERE He will be when He returns, note the warnings in Matthew
not to follow when it's said 'he is here or he is there' ... do
NOT believe them! When He returns on the day of the LORD, He will
return to Jerusalem, just as He ascended will He descend ... on
the Mt of Olives! Jerusalem, Israel, PAY ATTENTION! Those
of you that survive ... this is from YOUR BOOKS of the Bible,
you acknowledge the OT ... please, don't let this important prophecy
evade you, your safety depends on you listening ... flee as you
did in the days of Uzziah, king of Judah, this passage tells you
EXACTLY WHERE to flee to!}. |
Zechariah
14:6-9 "And it shall come to pass in
that day, [that] the light shall not be clear, [nor]
dark: But it shall be one day which shall be known to
the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass,
[that] at evening time it shall be light. And it shall be in
that day, [that] living waters shall go out from Jerusalem;
half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the
hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. And the LORD
shall be king over all the earth: in that day
shall there be one LORD, and his name one." {Again,
this is confirmed in Revelation, neither day nor night in this
one day. The LORD returns and is King over all the earth.}. |
Zechariah
14:10-11 "All the land shall be turned as a plain
from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted
up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin's gate unto the
place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and [from] the
tower of Hananeel unto the king's winepresses. And [men] shall
dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but
Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited." |
Zechariah
14:12-15 We are told in more detail what happens on the
day of the LORD when He goes to battle against those that come
against His city Jerusalem. There will be a great plague on all
the forces, and their animals, that come against Jerusalem and
Judah. |
Zechariah
14:16-19 We are now told of life thereafter where all
the nations will come to Jerusalem, "And it shall come
to pass, [that] every one that is left of all the nations which
came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship
the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.",
and we are told of the plight of those that do not come to worship.
{It's important to note that ALL the
nations and peoples that remain will go to Jerusalem to worship
Jesus from year to year AND will "keep the feast of tabernacles",
which is currently thought to be only a Jewish Holy Day. We will
ALL be keeping the Holy Days of the Lord in the future, and should
be doing so now ... rather than observing man's pagan holidays.}. |
Zechariah
14:20-21 This chapter ends saying, "In that
day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS
UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD'S house shall be like
the bowls before the altar. Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in
Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that
sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and
in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house
of the LORD of hosts." {I believe
that "In that day", as mentioned here, means from THAT
DAY onward. I also find it interesting that 'sacrifice' is mentioned
here, which likely means there will be a temple, also called the
LORD's house, to sacrifice in. Notice ... there will be a Jerusalem
AND Judah still!}. |
